Mica Schist from Loch Eilt, Scotland rock thin section Coaster (C60)

A thin rock section of Mica Schist was viewed using crossed polarising filters. This is a metamorphic rock which shows two different types of mica with a background of quartz and feldspar.

From Loch Eilt, Lochaber, Scotland. Part of the Moine Schists. 900 million years old, when the most advanced life was single celled algae in the ocean!
