Hornblendite from Avernish, Scotland (Lewisian Gneiss) rock thin section Earrings (ER41)

A thin rock section of Hornblendite was viewed by polarised light microscopy. Hornblendite is a metamorphic rock and shows laths of actinolite in random orientation (actinolite is a member of the hornblende family)

From the Lewisian Gneiss of North West Scotland, The oldest rocks in the UK, and amongst the oldest anywhere on earth.

About 2500 million years old, half the age of the planet.

Earrings are printed onto one side of 0.5mm thick Aluminium (reverse side plain Aluminium finish) to give a lightweight and durable glossy and scratch resistant earring.
Aluminium discs measure 16mm in diameter and are mounted on either silver plated or hypoallergenic surgical steel earring wires (please choose from the drop down menu). Please note that due to the nature of the metal the surgical steel hooks are slightly less bright and shiny than the silver plated ones shown in the image. They still look great though!
Total length from top of earwire to bottom of disc 32mm.
